Horses competing at USDF-recognized shows must have either a USDF Horse Identification Number (HID) or a USDF Lifetime Registration.

Exception:
Horses competing in Individual Breed Classes (IBC) at DSHB competitions, horses competing only in breed restricted dressage or DSHB classes at Regular Competitions (i.e. all Arabian or all Morgan classes), or horses competing in USDF Introductory Level tests, pas de deux, quadrille, or IPEC classes, are exempt from this requirement. Also exempt are horses ridden in leadline, exhibitions, games and races, classes for 4-H members, walk-trot and academy classes. For foreign-owned horses competing in a CDI, USDF accepts copies of the horse identification pages from an FEI passport in lieu of a USDF HID or Lifetime Registration number.

USDF HORSE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (HID):
A one-time tracking number for horses ($20). Scores earned by a horse with an HID will be recorded, but will NOT be counted towards USDF Year-End Awards. A horse with an HID is not eligible to compete in Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional qualifying or championship classes or USDF Breeders' Championship Series Finals. An HID can be upgraded to a Lifetime Registration for a fee of $45. If a horse is Lifetime Registered it does not need an HID. An HID does not need to be renewed.

USDF LIFETIME HORSE REGISTRATION:
A horse with a Lifetime Registration ($65) is eligible for USDF Year-End Awards, and eligible to compete at USDF Breeders' Championship Series Finals and Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional qualifying and championship classes, assuming requirements for the owner and rider are met. If a horse is Lifetime Registered it does not need an HID. A Lifetime Registration does not need to be renewed. (You must also have a USEF Annual or Life Horse Recording For Great American Insurance Group/USDF Regional qualifying and championship classes.)

Q: I am a USEF member and have not received EQUESTRIAN magazine. Why?
A: Are you a Life, Platinum, Senior or Junior member? These members receive all ten issues of the magazine provided they renew/join at the beginning of the competition year. Contributing members receive four pre-determined issues of the magazine.
If you renew or join any time later in the competition year, you will receive only the remaining issues of the magazine for the remainder of the competition year (through Nov. 30).
Also, remember that there is a time line for compiling the subscription mailing list. Although you join in April, for example, the April mailing list was compiled prior to April, so you will not receive the April issue.
Finally, did you indicate on your renewal/membership application that you do not want to receive EQUESTRIAN magazine?
If you are a Life, Platinum, Senior or Junior member and have considered the items listed above and feel that you have not received magazine issue(s) in error, please contact the USEF office.

Q: There are multiple USEF members in my household and we only need one copy of EQUESTRIAN magazine. What do I do?
A: On the on line application as well as the paper renewal, there is a checkbox to indicate that you do NOT want to receive a copy of the magazine. For all members who do not want to receive an issue of the magazine, the box should be checked. One of the household members should be assigned as the magazine recipient and all other household membership applications should be marked to not receive the magazine. Any other versions of the application which do not include this question should be submitted with a note stating that the member(s) does not want to receive issues of EQUESTRIAN. This process must be repeated each year at renewal time.
If you have already renewed and are currently receiving multiple copies of the magazine, please contact the USEF office and indicate which members should be removed from the mailing list.

Q: How do I obtain a duplicate membership card?
A: Duplicate membership cards will be issued for a fee of $15. You can also log in to your Authorized Users Account and print proof of membership at any time (once you membership has been processed in the office, which will be between 5 and 30 days). Exception: Members completing their membership application/renewal on line can print verification instantly upon completion and approval of the application. Please contact the USEF office via email, fax, phone or mail to request a duplicate card or log in to your AUA to order a replacement card. (GR203.8)

Q: Can my application be rushed?

Q: What about USHJA non-member fees?
A: The non-member fee to USHJA is $20.00 per competition. If you are a non-member of either or both the USEF and the USHJA, the non-member fee is $20.00 per competition for each organization. There will be one form in the show offices which will be used for non-member fees for both organizations.

Q: What is the amount of the USEF hunter/jumper discipline fee?
A: The USEF hunter/jumper discipline fee has been lowered from $35.00 to $15.00 beginning in the 2005 competition year.

Q: What are my fees to USEF and to USHJA?
A: If you are an individual who competes in open hunter and/or jumper classes at USEF recognized competitions, your membership fees are as follows:

Senior Member
USEF $55.00 ($40.00 base fee + $15.00 H/J discipline fee) + USHJA $55.00 = a total of $110.00

Junior Member
USEF $35.00 + USHJA $45.00 = a total of $80.00

Q: Do Stewards and Judges have to join USHJA?
A: They have to join USHJA if they are competing at a USEF recognized Hunter/Jumper competition. A good rule of thumb is anyone who signs the entry blank has to be a member of USHJA.

Q: Do farms have to be recorded with USHJA?
A: No, farms are not required to join USHJA. However, the owner of the farm who signs the entry blank will be required to be a member of USHJA or pay a non-member fee. A farm will need to be recorded with USEF for the purposes of accruing Federation points. (GR 816)
